| This readable, interdisciplinary volume is described as "a metaphoric companion" to guide readers on a "journey into the realms of creativity." The editors, UK and US academics, commissioned 41 experts from the creativity community to contribute to the book's 30 short chapters, which emphasize creativity in organizational and business environments. It is organized in six main parts (including creativity and design, environmental actors and influences, creativity and knowledge, the creative individual, and integration), and within these parts, seven themes (e.g., environmental influences, innovation and entrepreneurship, knowledge management, meta-theories of creativity, personal creativity). Each theme provides a focus around which issues of practical, theoretical, and international considerations are explored. The chapters extend into diverse domains, including education, design, innovation, economics, problem solving, artificial intelligence, cognition, and aesthetics. Other recent works on this fascinating topic include Everyday Creativity and New Views of Human Nature, ed. by Ruth Richards (CH, Mar'08, 45-4076); Richard Ogle, Smart World: Breakthrough Creativity and the New Science of Ideas (CH, Jul'08, 45-6466); and The International Handbook of Creativity, ed. by James C. Kaufman and Robert J. Sternberg (CH, Dec'06, 44-2402). Summing Up: Recommended. Lower-division undergraduate through research and faculty audiences. -- M. L. Nathan, Lynchburg College |
